About the Sycamore Fire
The Sycamore Fire was discovered on June 15, 2026, in the Sycamore Canyon area roughly 15 miles north of Globe, within the Tonto National Forest in Gila County. Officials reported the fire was caused by lightning. Burning through grass, chaparral, and brush in rugged, remote terrain with poor access — including cliffs, canyons, and abandoned mines — it grew to become one of Arizona's largest active wildfires of the season, reaching roughly 11,900 acres. Crews steadily built containment through late June, lifting earlier "SET" evacuation warnings for ranch areas including Griffin Ranch, Haystack Ranch, and M-K Ranch as progress was made. No injuries or community destruction were reported as of late June 2026.
